Shopping cart with membership payments

Some gateways such as Authorize.net and PayPal offer their own recurring payments system. What do you think about that. Are these good recurring payment solutions?

Paypal and Authorize.net offer a recurring billing setup but in each case there is a disconnect between customer management, services and inventory. Unless you manage all that manually these solutions will not work for you. All they do is bill a customer on a specified date. Usually you will be billing customers for a reason such as subscription based access of information, shipment or similar. You will need to do a manual lookup every time you need to know if a subscription is up to date or not. If you start this way you will not be able to easily migrate to another system.

Most of these gateways offer it. Billing services in these cases just execute recurring schedules but you cannot pass this information back to your online store. A simple online store for website will not work with this recurring billing feature unless you manually manage your memberships and subscriptions and respectively their payments. This software is much more robust https://www.atintegrated.com/ecommerce/recurring-billing-shopping-cart-software.aspx

More and more customers come to us disappointed by the recurring billing features of the payment gateways. But you need to understand that the payment gateways offer recurring billing and very simple customer management simply to have it on the list for small merchants. They cannot effectively develop subscription management software because the business requirements are so diverse.
